How do you think the revenue item: ';gift vouchers sold by a department store'; should be recognised?

It's revenue. Usually you post revenue in the same period as product delivery, but in this case product delivery comes later (but possibly in the same period). You can always keep track of ';Gift Vouchers'; as a separate item in revenue, but you're getting the money earlier than usual so it's a bonus.

If you wanted to be really exact about it, you could install a system that identifies certain purchases as ';Gift Voucher Redemption's'; so that you could track the sale and subsequent use period-to-period. Many sales are tracked as ';cash'; or ';credit'; anyway, this could be another category of income.

However, based on your spelling of ';recognised';, you could be from Great Britain where accounting procedures are different. I am from the US and we do some things differently. You might try using the UK Answers system. How do you think the revenue item: ';gift vouchers sold by a department store'; should be recognised?
