If you went in and took something, it would not necessarily be theft as suggested above. It would amount to a civil dispute.
You're misdirecting your anger back at people answering your question, so I'd stop that if you actually want serious answers. If you don't like an answer, ignore it. If you want to post a rant, with other ranters, there are other forums available. This site is for answers.
For a theft to occur, you MUST have dishonesty. If you believe you have a right in law to these goods, then you cannot be convicted of theft....
BUT, given that the store have told you the procedure for claiming back the money, choosing to ignore it would be a difficult (not impossible) position to defend.Why can't Zavvi gift vouchers be used now?
I agree with the observations about your attitude, striking out in anger right to the bitter end even in the way you select BA. We all have perfect vision in hindsight. You would be a 'bad guy' if you stole things %26amp; have had good advice.Sounds like you'd be treated v fairly by 'You there' if caught

Nobody needed a crystal ball back then.
Northern Rock needed a bail out, several banks needed bail outs, car manufacturers were going out of production, the price of oil rocketed and then plummeted, Marks and Spencer announced record losses, and woolworths were 拢385 million in debt. Open your eyes.

As stated above when a business goes into administration, the administrators will almost always stop accepting vouchers, the last thing they need is to start leaking money in areas like that. Their stock needs to be sold and raise money not given away. You may have bought the voucher but since the company is in debt that money has already been swallowed most likely. The administrators will give you a refund if you write to them, or should. But you are simply not a priority for them at the moment, people like staff have much bigger worries than you since they might loose their jobs.
You can't take any legal action against a firm in administration, and removing stock yourself is illegal.
Zavvi's management have called in the administrators whose job is to get as much money for their creditors as possible. They now owe you the money in the same way that they owe their other creditors (banks and suppliers). IThe administrators have to pay the debts in a certain way. Taxman first - you come way down the list behind banks and employee redunancy. I would apply to get my money back but would not be holding my breath.
If you remove stock from their shelves legally you could be arrested for shoplifting and end up with a criminal record.
As a word of caution in these times never give people vouchers (they are not cash) as presents unless they can be spent at more than one store (like Trafford centre or Bluewater vouchers) and if you have them spend them now as no one can predict which store will go next. I spent mine on Boxing day. I dont get the whole voucher thing it is a ploy by shops to get you to spend in their stores (say you have a 拢10 voucher and what you want costs 拢7 you end up buying something you dont want just so you dont waste money!!!)- people know how much you are giving them so just give them cash.

Nothing to do with hindsight but all to do with being careful.
Since the last recession and this one I can think of Alders and Courts going bust - both huge national chains.....
A voucher isn't the same as cash. The voucher has already been paid for and Zavvi have already spent that money, so if they gave you a cd/dvd/game in return for the voucher now they would effectively be giving stock away for free, something the can't afford to do.
i thought about doing the same when i saw 'no exchanges %26amp; no vouchers' sign in their window.
however...they did exchange my Super Mario game....so i was happy. i think it's disgusting that they are not taking gift vouchers...after all...they have had our money....but, i'm sure they would still call the police if you took something from the store....!
p.s. disagree with 1st answer...the voucher IS the same as cash....you pay cash to get the gift voucher!
As I see it ( and it is a bit of a circular argument ) :
When the gift vouchers were obtained the company was trading and the vouchers could be 'spent' or should I say be 'exchanged' for goods to a certain value that the company had. The company was, in effect, in debt to you for the value of the vouchers. The money spent on purchasing the vouchers went into the companies pot when they were purchased. No specific item had been identified as being owed to you.
When the store went into administration the stock ceased to belong to the company, it belonged to the administrator who is charged with the duty of obtaining as much value as they can for any creditors. You are one of those creditors and unfortunately often a long way down in the queue after the Govt. Customs %26amp; Revenue, Bank etc.
Sometimes, when a company goes into administration if you can show that your money, or deposit, has been spent for a very specific identifiable item then you will be able to get that item even after the shop has closed it's doors but otherwise you have lost out.
I agree with others that in the present trading climate I wouldn't buy vouchers and any I have I'd use up asap.
